Huaxia Chinese School at Bridgewater is a non-profit educational institution registered with the State of New Jersey. The tax ID of the School is 01-0853738. The mission of the school is to serve our community through excellence in educational programs focusing on Chinese language teaching and cultural awareness and enrichment. The school teaches Chinese language (mandarin), and also offer other culture and educational programs such as arts, dancing, martial arts, Tai Chi, etc. Through these programs, and by encouraging our members to participate in community service and introduce the rich Chinese heritage to the general public, we strive to contribute to the diversity of mainstream American culture.
The school is affiliated with Huaxia Chinese School, which has 20 branch schools in the states of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, with over 7000 students. It is a non-profit, non-religious, and non-political educational institution, in pursuit of teaching Chinese language and Chinese culture, and engaging in relevant activities in the community.
Huaxia Chinese School at Bridgewater, A New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation, admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administration programs.
Classes offered are basic Chinese language skill courses and culturally oriented courses. In Chinese language courses, PinYin (alphabetic spelling) system, coupled with simplified Chinese characters, and Mandarin Chinese dialect form the basis for instruction. The grade levels range from pre-school to high school level. The Chinese as Second Language (CSL) classes at the school are bi-lingual programs specially designed for non-Chinese students. School curriculum is aligned with the specific goals and objectives delineated in the 2004 version of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for World Languages. The cultural classes are designed to be complimentary to the academic classes. They foster an environment for students to learn and appreciate Chinese culture and to practice Chinese language. A wide variety of subjects are offered, including: Painting and drawing, Martial arts, Folk dancing, Crafts, Chess, Basketball, Tai Chi, Yoga, Math Contest, Chinese Geography and History, etc.
Location and Schedule
During the school year, classes are held at Bridgewater-Raritan High School from 9:30 AM to 12:50 PM every Sunday except for holidays. The school year consists of 30 school days from September to June.
